Next stop on my campervan search was Bristol. I headed up that way one Saturday morning, on the trail of an autosleeper trophy that was advertised with a dealership just on the outskirts.
I’d been phoning the dealer all week, just to make sure that it was still there (because I have discovered over the past few weeks that as soon as the Trophy comes in, it seems to have enough time for a bucket of water to be thrown over, and it is sold again.) When we arrived at the dealership, I instantly saw why this van hadn’t been snapped up straight away. I was told that it hadn’t had a chance for a proper clean out yet as it hadn’t long been on the forecourt, however the musty smell inside was a lot more serious than it being closed up for the winter. Looking upwards, the source, and severity, became obvious. The ceiling was stained, and the woodwork of the cupboards was dark with water damage. The storage cupboards under the sofa were damages, and cracked, and on the outside, the back plastic was in desperate need of repair.
Underneath it was rusty, and was going to need a fair amount of repair in the not too distant future, something that I can’t afford to do, especially on a van that was already a couple of thousand over my real budget.
While I was up in Bristol, I had a look around a few other centres, however an elusive trophy was not to be found. I did however find a Renault …, and it’s not quite the high topped practical bus that I’m looking for, but I have fallen a little bit in love. So unfortunately, Bristol was a bit of a bust generally, but there are still a few months until summer.
